The most important advice is to read what is included carefully, as each resort is different.
There are all-inclusive for families that include kid activities through out the day – some even have night time activities; there are some just for couples and others for everyone. Once again, read carefully, if you want a romantic or quiet vacation, do not go to an all-inclusive that says it is for “everyone”.
If you are looking for relaxation, beach and to be catered to without much exploring and adventure, an all inclusive in the Caribbean/Mexico is the perfect vacation for you.
The Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Mexico are probably the least expensive and most popular destinations in the Caribbean for mid – high level All Inclusive resorts. The Dominican Republic (Punta Cana especially) is perfect for all inclusive because it is not the best place to explore on your own. The resorts are safe, beaches are beautiful and you get the bang for your buck!
If you are coming from the West Coast, you may want to consider the All-Inclusives located on the West Coast of Mexico. There is a lot to see in Mexico, but because it is so inexpensive, it does not hurt to pay for the all inclusive to have the luxury of everything you need at your finger tips and go out every once in a while if you feel the urge.
Here are a few examples of really good deals on all-inclusives:
This deal ends 2/27 $549+: 3nts Sunscape Punta Cana w/Air, of course you can stay longer, I think 3 nights would be a minimum. Recently reopened as Sunscape Punta Cana, this resort has been newly renovated and upgraded.
This resort offers: 5 Restaurants, including a la carte options, Full-Service Spa and Health Club, Free-form Swimming Pool with
kid’s area Water Sports on Site, Tennis Courts, Daily & Nightly Activities & Entertainment, Scuba Clinic and Kids Club.
You can’t beat $89+ per night for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Unlimited alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks, domestic brands, 7am – 11pm, 7 dinner shows per week, activities 10am-5pm (volleyball, mini golf, pool activities, etc) , Nightly Live Entertainment and All Hotel Accommodations, Taxes, and Gratuities are Included! This particular resort is called Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa in Cabo San Lucas (West Coast of Mexico).
For a detailed listing of what is included, the type of all inclusive, descriptions, ratings and Islands, check out Vacations To Go, there is tons of inventory there and they always negotiate the best possible deals.

I am in the travel industry as an editor of a free travel newsletter and ofcoruse, I love to travel. Members of our newsletter email me questions for travel advice all the time, so I thought it would be fun to start a travel forum on Gather. Ask me questions – ask me for deals on places you would like to go to! I know where to find them and I have also personally travelled extensively.
My job is to find the best deals available for our newsletter and let people know about our newsletter. What is really cool is that we come across every kind of travel from a Caribbean Cruise, to a hotel in California, to an exotic adventure trip to South America, Asia, etc..
