Is it better to book an all inclusive vacation or travel independently?

Mike’s Girl asked:

My husband and I would like to travel to Jamaica later this year. Is it better to go all inclusive like Sandals or Couples or to book our own hotels and pay for food, etc when we get there?

Thanks!

go to your travel agent – they usually have great deals. Me personally think it is better to go for the deals where your food an flights are included. Most of the times its cheaper to do it that way, and that way you have no stress.

My boyfriend and I are going on holiday and we booked hotel, flights and food through the travel agent – no stress

I’ve travelled extensively in the Caribbean and have done it both ways: all-inclusive and room-only. Quite frankly I prefer the all-inclusive arrangement; it’s usually cheaper than eating three meals out and much more convenient. You can always splurge and go to a restaurant or two, but having breakfast and lunch available on site is a real bonus. And the food at Sandals is great. Have fun.

I think if you book all by yourself and pay the food there, you are more flexible to change your accomodation when you don’t like it, and regarding your meals as well…. you can plan your day more freely if you don’t have to return for lunch or dinner and try other restaurants too.
If you book all inclusive and everything’s fine, than this is probably the cheaper option, but if there’s something unsatisfying, you might find it hard to actually get hold of someone to complain to or to arrange something different. If you are by yourself, you decide for yourself and are more independent.
Those all inclusive journeys remind me of those coach trips where a large amount of people is just being transported from one destination to another and no one really cares for their needs. I don’t have much money to spend on holiday, but I usually find something nice, and if not, I can still change accomodation there. And organising is half the fun.
    Have a nice trip.

If you have never been overseas before, I’d recommend an all-inclusive. The all-inclusive takes all the hassles out of the trip–you pay and get room, food, booze, non-motorized sports, etc. for “free.” The bad part is you feel obligated to stay at the resort and eat, drink, be merry there or you pay twice for the same thing. It’s no problem if you are happy with the food (same thing every 7 days and institution food), like the local booze and the other guests are civilized.

If you have traveled overseas before, I’d recommend the pay-as-you-go option. You can eat where and what you want when you want . You get to see more of the natives as you get to leave the compound.

our dollar is much stronger than the jamaican but and u cud sure find a sleezy hotel off the resort, and cheap food, but, than u run the risks of getting sick with contaminated water and soiled food, at least if that happens you can sue Sandals if u were to stay there lol.. i use this site
they direct u direct to the comanies website so u do save becuz u are booking your stay independantly and skipping the online angencies like Expedia
    hope that helps
