To kick things off on your surfing holiday, you cannot be in the states without heading to Cocoa Beach, Florida. This beach can provide some of the best surf around but you have to time your visit right. Go during summer and you might get some excellent waves but you also quite likely to be sitting on your board, bobbing up and down and wondering where all the swell went. Visit in winter however and it will be a different story. The weather in winter is a lot more reliable and can often produce steady waves of around 10ft. The beach and waves are pretty safe making it great for beginners and the party atmosphere here is perfect for chilling out and enjoying yourself. Best surf is between November and March
Secondly, why not go back to where it all began. There is a reason why Hawaii is synonymous with surfing – it provides many of the best surfing locations on the planet and some of the biggest waves ever have been recorded here. It’s so steeped in surfing history that you would not be blamed for grabbing some wetsuits and spending your whole time in the water, however also visiting historic sites, talking to locals about surfboards, or checking out the thousands of surfboards on sale is also recommended. Well, perhaps not the whole time, some must be saved to witness the 20ft beasts in Oahu, and the luxurious sands and swells at Ehukai Beach and Waimea Beach. Simply paradise
Last but not certainly not least, no American surf holiday would be complete without experiencing the “surf city” and land of board shorts, Huntington USA.The sun loves being in the sky here and top surfers flock like sheep whenever there are waves. Some of surfing’s biggest stars hang out here a lot and you’ll be sure to catch one of the many surfing comps that take place frequently. It can get quite busy here though, 11 millions visitors per year. So if the bustling atmosphere isn’t your scene then come in winter to enjoy equally good riding conditions.
